The brown rice cleanse is an excellent cleanse to do for one to two weeks in the spring and fall to gently detoxify and cleanse your body. Basically, you eat brown rice with or without veggies for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This diet will give you all the nutrition that you will need while your body gently cleanses and heals itself and you don’t have to go hungry. You will experience some weight loss while on this cleanse.
EAT ONLY THESE FOODS – organic only and as much as you like!:
BROWN RICE:
- To make the rice: Use 2 – 2¼ cups of water per 1 cup of rice. Rinse the rice first, add water and bring to a boil, then turn down to low for 45-60 minutes. Keep pot covered and do not stir while cooking.
- Onions, herbs or spices can be added if desired during the last 15-20 minutes of cooking time. Add seaweed for more minerals and detoxing.
- To facilitate heavy metal removal add fresh cilantro, seaweed (e.g. kombu) which adds minerals (including salt), and/or barley to the rice while cooking.
- Wheat grass in liquid or tablet form will also help with heavy metal removal.
- Eat whenever you feel hungry or as often as you like. Eat until you feel full, but not engorged. It is better to eat several small meals per day rather than three large ones to keep your glucose levels stable. Make sure to chew really well to aid good digestion and assimilation.
VEGETABLES:
You can include fresh, steamed vegetables with your rice if you’d like except for corn, potatoes, and mushrooms.
FRUIT:
You can eat fruit for breakfast if you’d like except for bananas. No dried fruit.
CONDIMENTS:
You can add olive oil, flax oil, fresh lemon juice, herbs and spices, a little bit of salt (sea or Himalayan) to your rice and veggies.
BEVERAGES:
Drink a 6 to 10 glasses of purified water, fresh vegetable and fruit juices (not tropical fruits), and herbal teas during your cleanse. Dilute fresh juices half and half with water. Do not drink with your meals as this dilutes the enzymes in the stomach needed to properly digest food. Instead, drink 10 to 15 minutes before, or 1 hour after, eating.
DETOX FORMULATION:
It’s best to take an herbal detox formula with your cleanse. If possible, start on the detox formulation a week or two (or more) before you begin your cleanse. This will support your detoxing and prevent you from experiencing any detox symptoms (such as headaches, spaciness, aches and pains). However, on this cleanse the detox symptoms are much less than they would be on a juice fast. Continue taking the detox formulation throughout your fast. You can take it as either a tincture or a tea.
BREAKING THE CLEANSE:
Slowly introduce broths, beans, other grains, other veggies, raw foods, dairy, meats, etc. over the course of several days. Go as slowly as your digestion needs to incorporate these new foods. Excessive gas, bloating, and discomfort are signs you’re going too fast. Add only a few new foods per day. You may choose to come out of the cleanse over the course of one to two weeks.
