Traditional Nahua Healing: Limpias with Ramos

Limpias with ramos is one of the healing forms used in traditional Nahua healing.

In Spanish, “limpia” means the act of purifying or cleansing and “ramo” means branch or bouquet. A ramo consists of a combination of plants gathered in a bundle, with each plant in the bundle providing specific spiritual healing properties. In combination, these plants are powerful, and are used to purify, heal, and restore balance.

During a ramos limpia, the healer holds a ramo in each hand and sweeps them repeatedly over the person’s body while reciting a power-filled healing prayer. The beauty and aliveness of the fresh plants are transferred to the person who feels that beauty and aliveness within and as themselves.

Sometimes ramos consisting of only red roses are used. Red roses are powerful specialists that clear out heart blocks. Limpias with red roses cure heart sorrow, bring in love and connection, and attract relationships.

Ramos limpias seem so simple – brushing someone’s body with plants while praying – but the effects are far from simple. These limpias are profoundly powerful. They touch the deepest layers of the body, mind, and spirit to release that which is detrimental or no longer needed, while bringing in health, vitality, and well-being.

After a limpia with ramos, people feel settled, grounded, and balanced; they feel healed and uplifted; they feel more themselves than they have ever felt before.
